DETROIT, STOCKHOLM
proudly presents
‘DIS/CONNECTION’
Svarta Huset, Telefonplan
Supermarket – Stockholm Independent Art Fair
April 16-19 2015

At Supermarket 2015 we are proud to present the group show “Dis/Connection”, exploring this theme with four definitive works by member artists.

Utilising audio and visual elements as well as interactive media, we will invite participants to examine the connection and loss of connection between individuals, across and within societies, cultures, and geographies.

1) Lifesize re-creations, in cardboard, of villagers from Shaoxing, China. By artist Warren King. http://wrnking.com/

2) An installed mobile device inviting visitors to take part in a drawing exchange with an unseen ‘remote’ artist. Facilitated by visual artist/documentary drawer Jenny Soep http://dropr.com/jennysoep

3) A sound piece exploring connection and isolation: “See me!” by Joanne Grüne-Yanoff http://www.joannegruneyanoff.com/

4) A video exploring migration and community through shadow play. ‘Migrant’ shows moving shadows of used toothbrushes grouped together to bear a visual rhythm of imagined intimacies or of absence. By artist Alannah Robins. http://alannahrobins.com/

Opera Factory Sessions presents
‘HOT, A Swedish Circus on Merciful Inferno’
RedSpot Performance Scen
Svarta Huset (Exit stage)

A mini-opera which includes electronic music, performance, poetry, spoken and visual elements, all based on a Swedish text. The framework for this multi-disciplinary collaboration is John Cage’s musical score ‘Circus On’.

John Cage’s score consists of instructions about how to translate any piece of literature into a musical work. By the virtue of the openness of our process, the exact outcome has been left to the creative process and defined by the participants’ artistic excellence. This instance of ‘Circus On’ has its literary starting point in August Strindberg’s ‘Inferno’ together with Ikea’s instructions for the ‘Barmhärtig’ stove.

These artists come from various artistic disciplines; a collaboration between members of Fylkingen, a contemporary intermedia/interart organisation and Detroit Stockholm, an artist-run gallery and studio.
